Thickness dependence of structural and electrical properties in epitaxial lead zirconate titanate films

چکیده
We have studied the effect of misfit strain on the microstructure and properties of ferroelectric lead zirconate titanate thin films. We have changed the misfit strain by varying the film thickness and studied the thickness effect on the domain formation of epitaxial PbZr0.2Ti0.8O3 ~PZT! films grown by pulsed laser deposition on ~001! LaAlO3 substrates with La0.5Sr0.5CoO3 ~LSCO! electrodes. The nominal thickness of the PZT films was varied from 60 to 400 nm with the LSCO electrode thickness kept constant at 50 nm. X-ray diffraction experiments show that the films relax via the formation of a domains, the fraction of which increase with the ferroelectric film thickness. The c-axis lattice constant of PZT films calculated from the 002 reflection decreases with increasing film thickness and approaches the bulk value of ;0.413 nm in the films thicker than 300 nm. Cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy images reveal that the a-domain fraction and period increase with increasing film thickness. The relaxation of misfit strain in the film is accompanied by systematic changes in the polarization properties, as well as the switching fields, quantified by the coercive field and the activation field. © 1999 American Institute of Physics. @S0021-8979~99!02013-7#

Epitaxial Lead Zirconate Titanate Nanocrystals Obtained by a Self-Patterning Method
Epitaxial lead zirconate titanate nanoislands were obtained by a self-patterning method using the instability of ultrathin films during high-temperature treatments. After high-temperature annealing, the as-deposited film breaks into islands with a narrow size distribution. Nanostructures, as small as 20 nm lateral size with a height of 9 nm, were epitaxially grown on Nb-doped (001) SrTiO3 subst...

Lead zirconate titanate (PZT) thick films with uniformly dispersed submicrometer pores were successfully fabricated on platinized silicon substrates with various thicknesses ranging from 1 lm to over 100 lm by aerosol deposition. Mixed powders of PZT and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) were deposited for initial fabrication of composite films. After burn-out of the PVDF phase from the composite ...

With increasing technical requirements in the design of microresonators, the development of new techniques for lightweight, simple, and inexpensive components becomes relevant. Lead zirconate titanate (PZT) is a powerful tool in the formation of these components, allowing a self-actuation or self-sensing capability. Different fabrication methods lead to the variation of the properties of the de...
متن کاملOptical properties of PZT thin films deposited on a ZnO buffer layer
The optical properties of lead zirconate titanate (PZT) thin films deposited on ZnO were studied by m-lines spectroscopy. In order to retrieve the refractive index and the thickness of both layers from the m-lines spectra, we develop a numerical algorithm for the case of a two-layer system and show its robustness in the presence of noise. The sensitivity of the algorithm of the two-layer model ...

Lead zirconate titanate ~PZT! thin films with a Zr/Ti ratio of 52/48 were deposited on platinized silicon substrates by a sol-gel method and crystallized with preferred ~111! or ~100! orientation. Both the piezoelectric properties (d33) and the field-induced strains of the films with different thickness and preferred orientation were measured by a laser Doppler heterodyne interferometer. The we...
